Practice in Action: The Green Transition Office and Taras Shevchenko National University Are Working Together to Launch an ESG Program for Students

The Green Transition Office team held a meeting with faculty and students of the Faculty of Economics at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. During the visit, they discussed prospects for cooperation in implementing ESG principles (Environmental, Social, Governance) in the educational process and opportunities for practical training for future specialists.

The visit aimed to establish close interaction between ESG transformation practitioners and the academic community. Participants considered various collaboration formats: from introducing specialized courses to organizing practical case studies and internships for students.

"ESG principles are not just a fashionable trend, but a necessary condition for the sustainable development of Ukrainian business and its integration into the global economy. Our task is to prepare a new generation of specialists who understand how to implement these principles in practice. According to the Green Transition Office research, 77% of Ukrainian company executives consider the lack of qualified personnel and insufficient qualification of current employees a problem, while 89% believe that staff training will improve their readiness to implement ESG. That's why we are directing our efforts in this direction," noted Oleksiy Yatsyuk, a leading ESG expert in Ukraine.

Special attention during the meeting was paid to practical aspects of ESG. Participants discussed how to combine theoretical knowledge with real business cases from Ukrainian and international companies.

"Our department is interested in implementing innovative approaches to teaching. Cooperation with the Green Transition Office will allow our students to gain unique experience and practical skills in ESG, which will significantly increase their competitiveness in the labor market. We plan to develop joint educational projects that will combine academic knowledge with practical experience of industry specialists," commented Halyna Oleksandrivna Chornous, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Acting Head of the Department of Statistics, Information-Analytical Systems and Demography.

Following the meeting, several areas for further interaction were outlined: developing a discipline on ESG transformation and including it in the educational program for students of the Faculty of Economics, organizing regular master classes from practicing specialists, creating an internship program for the most interested and motivated students, as well as joint research projects studying best ESG practices in the Ukrainian context.

This initiative is an important step toward preparing a new generation of specialists who will be able to effectively implement sustainable development principles in Ukrainian business and the public sector.
