Green Transition Office Joins B2B Networking Session: Energy & Climate at PRE URC 2025 in Milan

On March 5, a Ukrainian delegation showcased the country's green energy potential at a business meeting in Milan. Andriy Kitura, Head of the Green Transition Office, moderated the B2B Networking Session: Energy & Climate as part of PRE URC 2025, facilitating productive dialogue between Ukrainian companies and Italian investors.

During the event, Ukrainian companies presented investment projects in green energy and decarbonization aimed at achieving Ukraine's climate goals and strengthening energy independence. "Ukraine is actively moving toward integration with the European Union, and this goal is our strategic focus for the coming years," emphasized the event moderator during his opening remarks.

Key players in the energy sector were represented at the meeting: Ukrhydroenergo, DTEK, Naftogaz, as well as projects from UNDP, EuroCape New Energy, and EuroCape Ukraine. Opening addresses were delivered by Andriy Telyupa, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, and Roman Andarak, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, who presented key sustainability criteria and outlined prospects for Ukraine's energy recovery.

A significant milestone in the European integration process was last year's adoption of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). The NECP consolidates existing strategies and policies in the energy and climate sectors, integrating them into a cohesive framework that meets EU requirements. The plan is expected to provide investors with a predictable and clear regulatory environment that will unlock foreign investment in Ukraine.

The audience comprised representatives from Italian businesses, financial institutions, and international partners and donors. The meeting's purpose was to establish direct dialogue between Ukrainian and Italian businesses, explore investment opportunities, and build strategic partnerships for the restoration and development of Ukraine's energy sector.

Special attention was given to projects developing renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, energy infrastructure modernization, and hydrogen technologies. Key representatives of the Ukrainian energy sector presented at the event, including Natalia Boyko, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine and Deputy Chair of the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz Ukraine; Vitalii Kushnirov, Member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrhydroenergo; Mykhaylo Chulkov, Director of EuroCape Ukraine Lviv LLC; Sergii Novosolov from UNDP; and Marco Biersinger, Head of Corporate Development at DTEK.

In the broader context, this meeting represents not just another business event, but a strategic step for Ukraine on its path of energy transformation. With Ukrainian energy infrastructure having become a target for Russia, partnership with Italian businesses opens a window of opportunity for rebuilding and modernizing the sector according to the best European standards.

The presented projects offer not only investment opportunities but also a path to economic resilience and energy security for Ukraine. European partners showed particular interest in biomethane and hydrogen production and transportation projects, which could transform Ukraine from an energy importer to an exporter of clean energy to Europe.

This event marked an important step toward URC 2025 in Rome. Summarizing the meeting's results, Andriy Kitura, Head of the Green Transition Office, emphasized:

"Green energy is not just a direction for Ukraine's recovery, but also a path to energy independence and integration into the European energy space. The projects presented today demonstrate Ukraine's enormous potential as a future exporter of clean energy to Europe and an important player in the renewable energy market. Decarbonization and the development of green technologies are both our strategic objective and competitive advantage in the EU integration process."
