Ministry of Economy presents draft law on the taxonomy of sustainable economic activities
On 17 July, the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine presented the draft Law of Ukraine "On the Taxonomy of Sustainable Types of Economic Activity and Sustainable Investment". The Green Transition Office, an independent advisory body to the Ministry of Economy on climate and energy policy, developed the draft law.
The draft law forms part of Ukraine's commitments under the Association Agreement with the European Union and brings national legislation in line with the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2020/852 on establishing a framework to facilitate sustainable investment.
The document creates a single legal and terminological framework for classifying economic activity as environmentally sustainable. Companies now have a clear reference point for moving towards European reporting standards. Investors, in turn, get a sharper way to tell genuinely green projects from those that merely claim to be.
Andriy Kitura, Director of Development at DiXi Group and Head of the Green Transition Office, stressed: "The EU taxonomy is only one element of the sustainable finance system, but it is the most important one, as it defines the criteria applied to sustainable economic activities and sets out the rules for their disclosure."
The draft law and its explanatory note have been published for public discussion on the Ministry's official website, in the "Discussion of Draft Documents" section.
The Green Transition Office is an independent advisory body under the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine that helps to implement reforms in the field of green transition, energy and climate policy of Ukraine. The Green Transition Office operates with the financial support of the UK Agency for International Development and is implemented by DiXi Group.
