Integration of ESG Standards in Ukraine: How War Shapes New Challenges for Sustainable Development
An expert discussion titled "Current Issues in Implementing ESG Assessment of Enterprises in Ukraine" took place at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center in the capital. A detailed analysis of the challenges and opportunities of ESG transformation was presented by Andrii Kitura, Development Director of DiXi Group and Head of the Green Transition Office at the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
The expert identified three main problems facing the Ukrainian government in implementing ESG standards: regulatory uncertainty due to active revision of approaches by the European Union, inter-departmental coordination between numerous structures during wartime, and implementation efficiency without creating additional barriers for business.
The most valuable element of the presentation was the segmentation of Ukrainian business by readiness for ESG standards. The state sector is divided into advanced companies with experience cooperating with international financial organizations and traditional enterprises balancing on the edge of survival.
The expert added that when small or medium businesses try to attract financing, a green component always appears, but those offering financing may have very different requirements in this area. Despite the challenges, the expert emphasized the strategic importance of ESG transformation and proposed a gradual approach with close dialogue with business, development of green taxonomy, and phased implementation of requirements. The speed of adaptation to ESG standards will determine Ukraine's competitiveness in international markets.
